Madison County golf teams play on

The regular seasons for high school boys and girls soccer and volleyball teams get started Saturday, the first regular Friday night football contests happen less than a week later.

But until those dates get here, the high school boys and girls golf and girls tennis seasons continue to be the only meaningful games being played.

The Madison County squads continue to improve as their seasons roll along

Boys golf

Jonathan Alder 161,

The Pioneers took advantage of the home course at Buck Ridge Tuesday, edging out a pair of Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference foes in a tri-match.

Jake Lombardi (38) led the squad with a round just a couple shots over par. Joey Petrella (39) was just behind his teammate, while Zach Starr (41) and Jon Peters (43) also contributed to the team score.

Grandview 184,

London 185

The Red Raiders came up just one shot short in a Mid-State League Ohio Division dual match with visiting Grandview at the London Country Club Wednesday.

Ethan Drummond was the event medalist, after firing a round of 39. Jacob Michel carded a 44, Garrett King shot a 48 and Joseph Johnson and Erik Snyder each came in with rounds of 54.

Girls golf

Madison-Plains 211,

Circleville 251

The Madison-Plains girls topped the visiting Tigers 211-251 in a match played at Locust Hills Tuesday afternoon.

Golden Eagles’ senior standout Christan Bowshier was the match medalist with a stellar round of 42. Regan Rubel finished with a 54, Blair Bryant had a 56 and Connor Hunter carded a 59 in the win.

The Unicorns of Columbus School for Girls outdueled the Lady Pioneers Tuesday in a match played at Rolling Meadows Golf Course.
