The Madison County fall sports season got started late last week as area high school golf teams took advantage of nice weather and opened their seasons.
The Jonathan Alder boys opened its season at the Delaware Invitational at Oakhaven Golf Course Friday, Aug. 7 in Delaware.
The Pioneers fired a round of 355 which placed it fifth out of the seven teams in attendance. Central Crossing easily won the event with its round of 298.
Big Walnut finished second with a 331, the Eagles were followed by Marysville (346), Buckeye Valley (352), Alder (355), Delaware (363) and Westland (403).
The Pioneers were led by Jon Peters’ 80. They also got a 90 from Joey Petrell, Tyler Unger fired a 92 and Zach Starr came in with a 93.
London boys place third at Grandview
The Red Raiders traveled to Oakhurst Golf Club, fired a round of 364 and came away with a third-place finish at the Grandview Heights Invite Friday.
The event was won by the host Bobcats (350), they were followed by Washington Court House (354), London (364) and Wayne Trace (369).
The team got a round of 82 from Jacob Michel and an 83 from Ethan Drummond. The squad added Garrett King’s 93 and and also got a pair of 105s from Joseph Johnson and Erik Snyder.
Plains falls to Northeastern
The Golden Eagles opened the season with an 18-shot loss against Northeastern Friday.
Senior Christan Bowshier was the event medalist after firing a round of 45. Teammates Regan Rubel carded a 53, while Blair Bryant and Connor Hunter both finished with rounds of 75.
