Volleyball team starts season with 2 victories

The London High School volleyball team has started the 2017 season with a pair of victories, the most recent coming with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 win over visiting Buckeye Valley Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Junior Malorie Colwell (11) and senior Addison Conley (10) lead the way with kills. Senior Destiny Ellars had 20 digs, while Colwell and Conley had 14 apiece. Arianna Calloway, a senior setter, quarterbacked the Red Raiders offense with 36 assists.

The team was scheduled to play at D-II powerhouse Logan Elm Thursday, Aug. 24, and will head to Washington Court House Saturday, Aug. 25, for a match that starts at 10 a.m.

Fairbanks 3,

West Jefferson 1

The Lady Roughriders fought hard against a good Fairbanks team but ultimately fell 25-13, 25-11, 22-25, 25-12 at home in their Ohio Heritage Conference opener Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The loss was the first of the season for West Jeff, which opened the season with wins over Grandview (25-11, 25-15) and Madison-Plains (25-11, 25-23) on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Bellefontaine 167,

Jonathan Alder 170

The Pioneers were just edged out by Bellefontaine during a Central Buckeye Conference match played at Liberty Hills Wednesday, Aug. 23.

The best round for Alder was turned in by Hayden Mitchell (38). Joey Petralla shot a 40, Zach Otto finished with a 45 and Liam Thompson carded a 47.

Madison-Plains 185

The Golden Eagles were knocked off in a Ohio Heritage Conference dual meet played at Locust Hills Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Girls golf

LHS splits tri-match

The Red Raiders are a year older and finding life on the courses to be a lot more enjoyable this season.

London split a tri-match played Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 23.

The Greeneview fired a 200 to win the tri-match, while the Raiders came in second with a round of 215. Southeastern carded a 238 and was a distant third.

London High School was led by Kayla Clinger who shot a solid 45. Jordan Marco finished with a 54, Aliyah Napper shot a 56 and Olivia Johnson posted a 63. Brooke Baker also played the course shooting an 81.

With the split London stayed above the .500 mark (5-4).
