The Lady Pioneers ’05 travel softball team is having an enjoyable summer despite the soggy weather that’s plagued Central Ohio.
The squad recently had strong showings in back-to-back weekends, winning one tournament and placing second in the other.
The Lady Pioneers ’05 team went undefeated in the 10U Division of the Upper Arlington Softball Revolution Tournament July 11-12, earning the championship trophy. On Saturday it defeated the Dublin Rocks, 11-1 in the opening round of pool play. Next up was a close 4-3 win over the Knockouts. Then after a big win 11-1 victory over the Springfield Bandits, the Lady Pioneers were named the No. 1 seed for Sunday’s bracket play single-elimination tournament.
Sunday’s first game was an 11-4 win over Dublin Dynamite, then another hard-fought victory, this time in extra innings 5-4 over the Knockouts, earning it a spot in the championship game against Ohio Glory ’04. The Pioneers came away with an 3-0 win.
New Albany Tournament
The Lady Pioneers ’05 reached the championship game of the the New Albany Tournament July 18-19, but was denied a second tournament championship in two weeks, as it finished in second place.
The team started off with two pool play wins on Saturday against the Jaguars 8-0 and LC Lightning 7-4. The Lady Pioneers ’05 went straight into the first round of bracket play, topping the Central Ohio Lady Vipers 12-1.
On Sunday, the first game was a semifinal against Central Ohio Ice. The Lady Pioneers pulled off the victory 11-10 in extra innings, advancing it to the championship game against Fast Wizards Legacy ’04. The team played with a lot of heart in the final but just couldn’t get things going and lost 11-0.
The 10u Lady Pioneers ’05 team will be holding tryouts Monday, Aug. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jonathan Alder Junior High Softball field. The rain date will be Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m.
