Plain City ‘Be the Church’ slated for Aug. 2

Staff report

“Don’t just go to church. BE the Church.”

This is the invitation the churches of Plain City are extending to their congregations and the larger community on Sunday, Aug. 2.

The 15 churches of the Plain City Church Fellowship have come together to sponsor the seventh annual “BE the Church Sunday.” Participating churches are canceling their usual Sunday morning activities and worship services to focus on serving their community.

Members of the community will gather in the Jonathan Alder High School gymnasium for a worship service at 9:30 a.m. Then they will spread throughout the community doing diverse service projects including activities like general maintenance and improvements at the Plain City Food Pantry, visiting residents at area nursing homes, feeding those in need and much more.

There will also be Neighborhood Block Parties at Green Meadows Mobile Home Park, Canaan Community Mobile Home Park, and in the downtown Plain City area. Each neighborhood party will feature free activities, fun and food for the whole family.

This year’s theme is “Blessed to be a Blessing.” Participants will celebrate the many blessings they have received and seek to be a blessing in a variety of ways to the whole community of Plain City. This event is open to anyone who wants to make a positive difference in the Plain City community.

For more information, contact Blaine Keene or Bill Heinig. You can also learn more at www.bethechurchplaincity.org.

Regular Sunday services will be canceled at the following churches to participate in the Be the Church Sunday: Agape Christian, Cornerstone Mennonite, Maranatha Community, Plain City United Methodist, Shiloh Mennonite and Vineyard Plain City.

Other sponsoring churches include: Big Darby Baptist, Carmel Christian, Cornerstone Church of Christ in Christian Union, Crusade Bible, Darby Grace Brethren, Haven Fellowship, New California Presbyterian, Plain City Presbyterian, Saint Joseph Catholic and Sharon Mennonite.
