Teams and individuals may now register for the Madison Health Foundation Bob Powers Classic Golf Outing. It will be held on Aug. 12 and Aug. 13 at the London Country Club.

The golf outing was named in honor of the foundation’s longtime volunteer chairperson. Bob Powers was an integral part of the foundation’s golf outing, originally called the County Classic, for more than 20 years. He passed away on Aug. 8, 2010, just three days before the event he helped plan.

This year, all proceeds from the golf outing will support the Mona Flax Breast Cancer Endowment Fund. The fund was renamed earlier this year in memory of its founder and helps area residents receive breast care services regardless of their ability to pay.

The tournament includes player gifts, a variety of prizes, challenging games and great food from local vendor, Hudson’s Edge.

“The Bob Powers Classic is an exciting way to network, while supporting the Madison County community,” said Kelly Snyder, executive director of the Madison Health Foundation. “You spend the day playing golf on a beautiful course and help support an endowment fund that will help local patients afford care.”

The Bob Powers Classic is a two-day golf event that offers two different formats. Wednesday’s four-person shamble begins at 1 p.m. The fee is $100 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, carts, beverages on the course, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and an opportunity to win a variety of monetary prizes.

On Thursday, players compete in a six-person scramble and have a choice of either a 7:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $80 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, carts, lunch, dinner and beverages on the course. The day also includes unique chipping and putting contests.

Register for both days and get the discounted rate of $160 to play 36 holes of golf.

New this year to the event will be a hog roast, which will take place after Thursday’s golf event. The event is open to the public and will feature live music on the patio.

Happy hour will begin at 6 p.m. with a barbeque buffet to follow at 6:30. The event is included with Thursday’s golf registration, or guests may purchase tickets for $20 per person. The price includes a buffet dinner and drink ticket. Tickets may be purchased at the Madison Health gift shop or by calling 740-845-7050.
