Alder, WJ fall in girls soccer

By Chris Miles -

It took one goal in one game for the dreams of a Division II Central District championship to come to an end for the Jonathan Alder girls soccer team.

The Lady Pioneers (15-2-1) were seeded third in the D-II district tourney, but that lofty ranking meant very little in a second round clash with No. 7 Bishop Hartley Thursday, Oct. 19. Alder allowed just one goal to the Hawks but that was enough to bring the Pioneers season to an end as they fell 1-0.

Jonathan Alder finished second in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail Division with a 7-1-1 mark, finishing behind only Springfield Shawnee (9-0).

The Pioneers did have a handful of players earn All-CBC honors. Seniors Sophia Thomas and Hannah Headleee as well as sophomore Lindsey Miller were all first team all-conference performers. Sophomore Kenzie Bushong, senior Peyton Mast, junior Maggie Ridder and junior Nora Squires were all second team selections.

Sophomore Lauren Perkey was a special mention pick and sophomore Emily Opatt won the Sportsmanship Award.

The ninth-seeded Roughriders thoughts of upsetting No. 1 seed Grandview went out the window as the Bobcats were ready to play and dominated play in this D-III Central District tournament contest played Thursday at Grandview.
