Area teams fight on

The London boys soccer team gave everything it had during a Mid-State League road game at Columbus Academy Tuesday, but unfortunately for the Red Raiders they still came out on the losing end of a 3-0 decision.

The Raiders (3-6) were solid defensively for nearly the entire first half, but the Vikings eventually found the back of the net with 14:14 remaining in the first. The score was 1-0 heading into the second half. London was unable to muster much of an offensive attack and allowed a pair of goals to be scored after the break, for the final 3-0 tally.

London will try and get back to winning when it hosts New Hope Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.

Benjamin Logan 2

The Pioneers (4-3-2, 3-0-1 in CBC) stayed unbeaten in Central Buckeye Conference play with a solid road win Monday.

Alder is in the tougher half of the CBC, the Kenton Trail Division, Bellefontaine and Tecumseh are both 4-0 in league play, leaving Alder and Kenton Ridge a half game behind the leaders at 3-0-1.

Jonathan Alder will host Indian Lake Monday, Sept. 25.

West Jefferson 3,

Johnstown-Monroe 2

The Roughriders (4-4-2, 2-3 in OHC) scratched out a hard fought win over visiting Johnstown-Monroe Monday.

Connor Shields scored a pair of goals and Matt Stultz added another for West Jeff. Reese Nawman was string in goal collecting eight saves. The win came over a Johnstown team that entered the contest at 8-1.

The Roughriders were coming off a 4-3 loss at the hands of Greenon Saturday, Sept. 16.

In that contest Shields scored three times for West Jeff.

Girls soccer

Benjamin Logan 1

The Lady Pioneers continued to roll through the regular season, scoring an easy win over Benjamin Logan Monday.

Alder got goals from Sophia Thomas (two), Hannah Headlee (two), Lindsay Miller, Elaina Winslow and Kenzie Bushong.

Nora Squires had one save in goal.

The team will return to the field starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, for a home date with Centennial.

London 5,

Washington CH 1

The Lady Red Raiders picked up the win Saturday in a game played at home against the Blue Lions.

They’ll be in action again on Thursday, Sept. 21, when they entertain Westfall, starting at 7 p.m. at Bowlus Field.

Greenon 4,

West Jefferson 3

The Lady Roughriders suffered a tough loss Saturday, Sept. 16 against the visiting Knights.

West Jeff will next play at Madison-Plains at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21.

Tennis

Tecumseh 0

The Pioneers cruised to an easy win at Tecumseh Monday.

Alder swept the singles courts with the only real competition coming at first singles, where Mikayla Holland defeated Ashley Fire 6-4, 6-2.

Sydney Winslow cruised past Hope Cay Castellanos at second singles 6-0, 6-0 and Maddy Grove did the same with Kayla Wright at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.

On the doubles courts the team of Mary Kate Hipp and Paula Berge had to fight their way to a victory over Ady Beel and Kayla Bush, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Abigail Watkins and Eliza Watkins won their second doubles match over Sydney Maxwell and Shelby Stacy in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
