PATASKALA— Jonathan Alder senior Aziza Ayoub knows the thrill of standing atop an awards podium following a state championship meet. She won the state title in the 800-meter run at last spring’s state track and field meet. She however did not feel that same feeling Saturday.
The speedy Ayoub was back competing with the state’s best Saturday afternoon in the OHSAA Division II state cross country championship meet held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. But despite running within the top 25 runners for two miles, the Pioneers standout crossed the finish line in 19:25.6 which placed her 51st out of the 177 runners who completed the race.
Ayoub will likely use the cross country race results as motivation going into the track season.
The standout is scheduled to have a ceremony at the school Nov. 15, where she is going to sign a National Letter of Intent to run track in college. It is believed to be she will sign with Ohio State University.
