The fall sports season begins to make its way toward the postseason, and a handful of Madison County teams are closing in on league championships and high seeds in the upcoming postseason tournaments.
The Jonathan Alder girls soccer team got a battle from neighboring Fairbanks Saturday, Sept. 24, but the Lady Pioneers stayed hot pulling out a 3-2 victory.
The Pioneers (8-2-1) were paced offensively by Riley Gruenbaum, who scored a pair of goals. Lily Hess added the other, while keeper Nora Squires turned away eight shots in goal.
The Jonathan Alder boys soccer team hasn’t had too many disappointing outcomes this season, but Saturday, Sept. 24, was one of them as the squad dropped just its second match of the year, a 5-3 decision at Delaware Hayes.
The Red Raiders remain atop the Mid-State League Ohio Division standings following a 25-16, 25-10, 25-14 triumph over host Bexley Saturday, Sept. 24.
Malorie Colwell (12 kills) and Claire Vanhorn (11 kills) were forces at the net, while Madison Miller had 19 digs to pace the London defense.

Westerville Central 1
Most of the Pioneers’ losses this season have come against very good Division I schools like DeSales and Hilliard Davidson. But Saturday, Sept. 24, that trend changed a bit as Alder took down Westerville Central in four games 25-20, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19.
The Lady Pioneers got big performances from their very best players. Sam Durbin had 12 digs and a team-best 37 assists. Alexa Hasting showed her all-around ability in collecting 22 digs, while pounding out 15 kills. Taylor Izzard had 19 digs, while Kortney Reynolds, Corinne Parker and Maddie Fuller both had nine kills in the win.
Union County Classic

The Pioneers gave a strong effort but came up a bit short at the Union County Classic held at the Marysville Golf Club Saturday, Sept. 24.
The top scores for Alder were carded by Joey Petrella (80), Mychal McKelvey (82), Hayden Mitchell (83) and Tyler Hilbert (89).
Marysville’s AJ Fisher was the event medalist with a 78, other Monarch scores included Tyler Lewis (80), Dylan Tremayne (82) and Chris Borjas (84). Fairbanks got scores in the 80s from Todd Crowe (80), Justin Brackenridge (81), Aiden Wilson (82) and Nathan Scally (840).
