The Jonathan Alder High School football team is halfway through what could be a perfect regular season, following a 43-16 defeat of host Galion Friday, Sept. 23.
The Pioneers (5-0, 2-0 in MOAC Red Division) were met with little to no resistance as they scored 28 first quarter points and cruised to the win.
The team got a 9-yard scoring run from Jamie Dye, a 37-yard touchdown pass from Preston Eisnaugle to Trey Pugh, a 25-yard run from Austin Fooce and another touchdown scamper from Dye, this one covered 28 yards, all in the first 12 minutes of action. Ethan Gordin connected on all four PAT attempts.
The Tigers scored the first nine points of the second quarter on a 37-yard pass play and a 47-yard field goal. But the Pioneers got back to their scoring ways just before the half when Dye scored his third touchdown of the game, a 62-yard run. He also scored a fourth on a 38-yard run in the final stanza.
Dye finished the game with 202 yards rushing on just 14 carriers, to go along with his four touchdowns. Austin Fooce rushed for 46 yards. Pugh had six catches for 122 yards.
The Alder defense limited Galion to just 188 yards of total offense (98 rushing) and only surrendered eight first downs.
