There aren’t a lot of bodies on the Madison-Plains High School girls golf team this fall, but that’s not stopping the Golden Eagles from giving their all.
“The girls team is small this year,” coach Jim Miller said. “We have only four members, three returning players and one new player.”
Morgan Hunter, Regan Rubel and Connor Hunter all return to the lineup for Plains, with the addition of Kailee Rhoads.
The Golden Eagles opened its season with matches on Aug. 8. They traveled to Cooks Creek and came out on the short end of a 240-268 decision against Logan Elm.
The scores for MPHS were Morgan Hunter (62), Rubel (61), Connor Hunter (72) and Rhoads (73).
Teays Valley 199,
The Eagles were back in action Wednesday when they traveled to Foxfire to take on host Teays Valley. Madison-Plains showed improvement, but still fell to the Vikings.
Morgan Hunter (49), Rubel (50) and Connor Hunter (66) all improved their scores while Rhoads struggled on the tough course (84).
Bishop Ready (217),
The Golden Eagles hosted a quad meet at Locust Hills Thursday and came out on the losing end.
Rubel (49) lead the way and was followed by Morgan Hunter (50), Connor Hunter (54) and Rhoads (69).
Alder battles at invitationals
The Jonathan Alder boys golf team opened the 2016 season with a busy schedule participating in a pair of tough invitationals.
The Pioneers shot a solid round of 358 and finished sixth (out of 15 teams) at the Fairbanks Panther Invitational held Aug. 9 at Darby Creek GC.
The event was won by Northeastern (339) which was followed by Pleasant (352), Grandview (352), West Liberty-Salem (353), Bexley B (3540, Alder (358), Fairbanks (362), Buckeye Valley (364), West Jefferson (366), Ridgedale (368), Canal Winchester (375), Kenton Ridge (390), Triad (418), Cedarville (421) and Licking Heights (489).
The top scores for Alder were earned by Joey Petrella (87), Hayden Mitchell and Tyler Unger (89 each) and Mychal McKelvey (93).
The team was back at it a day later at the Ryan Reynolds Invitational held at Liberty Hills, where it finished seventh out of 13 teams.
Vandalia Butler (296) cruised to victory, finishing ahead of Bellefontaine (308), Lima Shawnee (314), West Liberty-Salem (314), St. Marys (326), Springfield Shawnee (328), Alder (340), Kenton (353), Ben Logan (357), Tecumseh (375), Riverside (387), Indian Lake (399) and Carroll (408). Joey Petrella (82), Mitchell (84), Unger (86) and Zach Otto (88) all factored into the scoring for the Pioneers.
