Madison County is celebrating America’s Independence Day for five days, with festivals in the north, south and east from Saturday, July 1 to Tuesday, July 4.

Mount Sterling kicked off festivities with its Community Days Festival at Veterans Field, located on 24 N. High St. There will be carnival rides and fair food. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a car show at the Dairy Freeze on London Street, Rock ‘n’ Roll Trivia with Village Council member David Timmons and his brother John at the Mt. Sterling Community Center, 164 E. Main St., from 2-4 p.m. and a visit by the Newport Aquarium from 6-8 p.m., featuring penguins. There will be with a laser light show at 9:45 p.m.

West Jefferson’s July 4 Streetfest starts Sunday, July 2 on South Center and Pearl Streets, with the usual rides and food along with music in the evenings. Sunday will feature gospel singers at 2 p.m. and The Alexander’s Band at 7 p.m., on Monday the Smokin’ Ham Band at 7 p.m. as well, and on Tuesday the Southern Rock Band at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 4.

London’s Patriotic Celebration will be held on Monday, July 3 at London High School, with the Red Raider Nation Fireworks Festival, featuring various activities, sponsored by the school’s athletic boosters starting at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks starting at 10 p.m. The organizing committee is still accepting donations for the show and can be mailed to P.O. Box 367, London, OH 43140 or dropped off at Wilson Printing and Graphics on 158 S. Main St.

The Downtown London Association is also hosting an event at Cowling Park, located on 175 N. Main St. at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4 featuring music and food.

Plain City will be holding their celebrations at Pastime Park on 344-350 N. Chillicothe St. from 3-10 p.m. on July 4, which will include a parade, live music, food and more. Fireworks start at 9:45 p.m.

All of the festivals will feature parades, with Mount Sterling’s starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on New Street, West Jefferson’s Tuesday at 10 a.m., London’s at 11 a.m. running down south on Main Street Tuesday and Plain City at 3 p.m. at Pastime Park Tuesday as well.

6-8 p.m. — Newport Aquarium Live Shark Encounter and Penguins Exhibit
