MIAMI COUNTY — At their meeting Tuesday, the Miami County Commissioners approved several purchases and awarded the bid for the county’s annual resurfacing program.
The commissioners awarded the annual asphalt concrete resurfacing program the John R. Jurgesen Company of Springfield.
The total cost of the project is not to exceed $2,058,924. The same company resurfaced 17 miles of county roadways in 2016.
The board also authorized the county engineer to construct driveway approaches on Fenner Road and add the construction costs to the owners’ property taxes.
According to County Engineer Paul Huelskamp, this is the final phase of a project that improved drainage in the area. He added that the homeowners have agreed to pay their portion of the project.
The commissioners authorized the Department of Development to purchase two new 2017 Ford Escapes at $24,304 each from Troy Ford, while trading in three older vehicles with a trade-in allowance of $1,000 apiece. The total after trade in will be $45,608.
A quote from Liquid Engineering Corporation of Billings, Mont., was accepted for preventative maintenance and cleaning of the Brandt and Upper Valley Medical Center water tanks. The cost is not to exceed $4,870.
The board also voted to place a referendum petition on the next primary or general election ballot as determined by the board of elections.
The referendum petition regards a proposed change in zoning of a 50-acre parcel on Monroe Concord Road in Concord Township from general agriculture to single family housing.
