Over 100 people enjoyed the Fourth Annual Madison County Democratic Party Scholarship Dinner at Ann & Tony’s Restaurant in West Jefferson.
Four of Madison County’s best and brightest received the annual scholarships. Debbie Cochran, chair of the scholarship committee introduced the winners, Aaron Gates, London High School; Emma Sampson, Madison-Plains; Isabel Rodela, Jonathan Alder; and Victoria King, West Jefferson High School.
Attendees were delighted to hear featured speaker, State Representative Fred Strahorn. Strahorn is the Democratic Party Minority Leader of the 131st Ohio General Assembly.
Each year one senior student from London, Jonathan Alder, West Jefferson and Madison-Plains High Schools is chosen to receive the scholarship based on their submissions of a 500 word essay or a multimedia presentation. This is a non-partisan award. The funds may be used for any education beyond high school including apprenticeships, college, vocational/technical school or job training. The award is funded by the annual dinner and donations.
Central and Executive Committee members, Frank Slagle, Ron Roach, Sandy Gregg, Theresa Fauver, Kevin Stockham, Ryan Steiner and Cheryl Lafferty along with student Nick Powell, were volunteer servers.
