An elderly man was found dead in his wrecked car Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Lucas Road about 12:30 p.m.
The car, a 2012 blue Honda Civic, appeared to have been northbound when it went off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail and overturning in a creek, according to Sgt. Roger Cooper of the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities expect the car had wrecked earlier in the day. But because it was not visible from the roadway, it was not spotted until several hours later. A neighbor walking her dog made the discovery and called authorities in the afternoon.
The man has been identified as David D. Fee, 68, of Marengo, Ohio. Fee had been reported missing from his family after leaving the west side of Columbus late Monday evening after reportedly feeling ill.
The Madison County Coroner’s Office has referred the case to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office for autopsy. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues, according to the patrol.
