The smell of freshly smoked pork will fill the air in downtown London this weekend as festival-goers sip a cold beer and make the most important decision of their day: which rib burner gets their business.
But there will be great background music as attendees choose among the six rib vendors. They are London Kiwanis Club, Gumms, Wilson’s, Fine Smoke, S&R Ribs and Rudy’s Smokehouse.
Saturday’s entertainment will kick off at noon with Terry Davidson and The Gears. No stranger to the stage, Terry Davidson has been performing for nearly 50 years and is known for his ability to “switch gears” (hence the name) smoothly and effortlessly during his sets.
At 2:45 p.m. Linda Dachtyl will perform with a quartet. Dachtyl is known for several successful records including “A Late One” and “Music for Hep Cats.”
Masters in genres including R&B, soul, blues, jazz, and rock-n-roll, The New Legga C Showband boasts their extensive musician and vocal experience. Legga C will perform from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m.
Rounding out the entertainment lineup is The Legends Band from 8:15 to 10:30 p.m. Devearn Winbush, the group’s percussionist and sound technician, said the band has been playing together for over 15 years.
“We all bring a little bit of our own individual legend to the group,” Winbush said.
The guys all grew up in Columbus, and have performed with a number of national acts including Rick James, but being on the stage with their friends in their home state is one of their favorite places to be.
Links to the bands websites, along with more information about the festival can be found on the London Rib and Jazz Fest website at www.londonribandjazzfest.com. The festival, which takes place all day Friday and Saturday, draws about 10,000 people to downtown London to enjoy about 5,000 pounds of ribs and hours of live music.
