Plain City is in the cards

Kerri Ferguson and Linda Peters, co-owners of Main Street Treasures in Uptown Plain City, have liked the idea of creating post cards about Plain City by those who live in the quaint, quiet and beautiful village.

And when Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO) president Julie Weaver began talking about putting on a festival to show off all the wonderful things and people who live and make Plain City the small-town jewel it is, Peters and Ferguson thought of an idea which would go hand-in-hand with what Weaver would eventually create — Plain City’s first Heritage Days Festival, which is to be held May 22.

“We’ve had people come into the shop over the years and ask about post cards of Plain City, and there never were any to offer,” Peters said. “So Kerri and I talked about it, and thought this contest would go perfectly with Heritage Days.”

Peters put together the contest by encouraging anyone — from children to adults — to use the theme, “What Makes Plain City Special.” The response has been overwhelming. They have received 58 adult entries — and some are stunning — as well as 12 from children.

All entries are original artwork or photography. Four winners will be chosen from both categories (adults and children) with the winners announced at the Heritage Days Festival.

The winning entries will be printed out, and sold at Main Street Treasures.

The judges for the contest are Charles Lovejoy (Lovejoy Markets), Mike George (Barb and George Realty), Julie Weaver (UPCO), Christy Clark (Union County Chamber of Commerce), Jason Stanford (Union County Chamber of Commerce) as well as Peters and Ferguson.

The winners were actually selected by the judges Monday, May 10 (in order to get them to the printing plant on time to have them for Heritage Days) and will be on sale at Main Street Treasures. Copies of the winning entries will be framed and presented at the Flat Iron near the Clock Tower.
